Where Was the Mother of King Jay Baby
The female parent of a San Antonio man accused of injuring King Jay Davila and faking a kidnapping to disguise the baby's death is a "manipulator" who orchestrated the cover-up scheme, according to the mother's niece.
Beatrice Sampayo, 64, has been indicted on a charge of tampering with evidence every bit part of the cover-up. Her son, Christopher Davila, 34, is accused in the expiry of Male monarch Jay. He had claimed to exist the baby's begetter.
Sounding angry, Elizabeth Sampayo, 38, told media gathered in the 227th country Commune Court for a hearing Monday that the elder Sampayo was the "mastermind" of what police say was a fake kidnapping to throw off investigators when Davila reported the infant missing in January.
"She'southward a manipulator," Sampayo said of her aunt.
Elizabeth Sampayo said that when she was a child, she and her cousins would exist left in Beatrice Sampayo'due south care and the woman would give the children tranquilizers and then she could get her chores done.
"She'd requite us Xanax to clean the house," Elizabeth Sampayo said.
Davila, Elizabeth Sampayo's cousin, initially told police Male monarch Jay was in the dorsum seat of his machine when it was stolen from a gas station. Police force chop-chop grew suspicious of his account.
Days afterward, Davila led authorities to the child's trunk, which had been put in a backpack and buried in a field on the Northeast Side, co-ordinate to court records.
Davila said he had been caring for Rex Jay when the baby accidentally fell off a bed while in his automobile seat. He said he was afraid to seek help for the infant.
Davila is engaged to Male monarch Jay'due south mother, Jasmine Gonzales. Both claimed Davila was the father, but Gonzales afterwards admitted in courtroom that he is not. She recently gave nascence to another boy and says this one is Davila's.
Elizabeth Sampayo said she believes Davila, her cousin, chosen his mother when he realized Male monarch Jay was dead. She was adamant that Beatrice Sampayo put the rest of the events into motility.

She said Torres, 45, her cousin, was goaded by their aunt into helping Davila. Torres was captured on video in January, co-ordinate to an arrest affidavit, getting into Davila'south auto at the gas station and driving information technology abroad, making it appear to was stolen with King Jay in it.
Similar Beatrice Sampayo, Torres and Davila were indicted in April on charges of tampering with evidence. Davila faces additional charges, including injury to a child causing astringent bodily injury, a first-degree felony. He remains in jail.
Elizabeth Sampayo appeared to question her aunt'southward frailty.
"Beatrice has been ill since before I was built-in," she said. "I'g 38 years old. She's been dying all my life."
When asked if reports that Beatrice Sampayo is contesting terminal cancer are true," she replied, "perchance."
She said King Jay's expiry has split the family.
Beatrice Sampayo and Torres had courtroom hearings scheduled before Judge Kevin O'Connell on Monday, but both cases were reset.
Beatrice Sampayo, who is out on bond and used a wheelchair, covered her face up from media as she left the courtroom. Her attorney, Melissa Lesniak, left the courtroom without annotate.
Torres' attorney, Karl Basile, declined to comment on Elizabeth Sampayo's allegations against her aunt.
Basile said information technology'south too early in the example to counterbalance any plea agreements regarding Torres' role.
"Neither the state nor I are in a position where we can discuss any blazon of understanding, or what we're going to practise with the example other than just farther our investigations and come dorsum and talk some more than after," he said.
Torres is being held in the Bexar County jail on a $250,000 bond.
